“Our aim is to upskill Tutors/ Educators supporting education to

500,000 underprivileged children in Indian subcontinent by end of 2021”

Provide “Online English teaching by native English-speaking teachers” from Australia to

teachers/ tutors working in rural/ remote areas of Indian subcontinent” pro bono.

Our research indicated that there’s an opportunity to upskill English language teachers, supporting

children’s education working in rural areas of India. They have no access to international platform to upskill them with latest teaching techniques and methodology to help them uplifting their

teaching standard which help in educating children.

The criteria considered for selecting the right organisations:

  • Volunteer groups and non-profit organisations providing free quality education to underprivileged children, street child and disabled child with a special focus on girl child education, in the rural pockets of India.

  • Women Tutors – They are all women from local communities who facilitate learning and mentor the students through their schooling, and also engage with parents/community stakeholders to create girl-friendly ecosystems.

With due diligence we selected two organisations:

  1. Project Nanhi Kali (K C Mahindra foundation) www.nanhikali.org/

  • Nanhi Kali which translates to ‘a little bud’ in Hindi, supports the education of underprivileged girls in India.

  • Designed to support girls from low-income families to complete ten years of formal schooling, the project has impacted the lives of over 450,000 girls (called Nanhi Kalis) from underserved communities across the country.

  • This is one of India’s largest programmes that enables underprivileged girls to complete 10 years of schooling. The project provides daily academic support as well as an annual school supplies kit, which allow the girls to attend school with dignity.

2.   Deepalaya: www.deepalaya.org/

  • Deepalaya identify and work along the economically and socially deprived, the physically and mentally challenged – starting with children, so that they become educated, skilled and aware.

  • Deepalaya’s focus and sole reason for existence is the child, especially the girl child, street child and disabled child. The family of the child is the medium through which the development takes place. Organisation and sensitization of the community is the approach through which empowerment, capacity building and social transformation are attempted.
